Big Recall: 58 Million Pounds of Corn Dogs
In a startling move, the Hillshire Brands Company recently announced the recall of a whopping 58 million pounds of their corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products due to potential contamination. Customers across the U.S. are urged to check their freezers as the presence of wooden splinters in the batter has raised serious health concerns.
On September 27, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) classified this recall as a “high-risk” situation, indicating that consuming these products could result in severe injuries, including scratches or punctures to the mouth and potentially fatal damage to internal organs. The trigger for this large-scale recall came after multiple consumer complaints, with at least five reported injuries prompting a swift investigation by Hillshire Brands, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods.
Identifying Recalled Products
The affected items, which were packaged between March 17 and September 26, 2025, feature establishment numbers “EST-582” or “P-894” printed on their packaging. Popular items caught in this recall include:
- Jimmy Dean Cinnamon French Toast Sausage on a Stick
- State Fair Beef Hot Dogs Wrapped in Honey-Sweetened Batter
- Various Batter Wrapped Franks with Turkey and Chicken, Pork, and Beef
These products have found their way into numerous retail locations, including Walmart and Sam's Club, as well as school districts and Department of Defense facilities nationwide.
What Should Consumers Do?
Hillshire is now advising anyone who may have purchased these products to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Although there haven’t been additional injury reports since the warning, the FSIS warns that these tainted products could still be lying in kitchens across the country. Consumers are also encouraged to contact healthcare professionals if they suspect they have been harmed by the contaminated items.
